(Investigation is on-going)…The investigation is into an Officer Involved Shooting.

It happened in Calexico last Friday. Calexico Police Chief Gonzalo Gerardo says Calexico Police responded to a call at around 7:30 pm. The call was from the area of 5th Street and Rockwood Avenue. According to the report an unidentified male was bothering a female who was walking her dog. The woman said the man was following her, using belligerent and sexually explicit language directed towards her. He was last seen going west towards Imperial Avenue. Officers contacted the man moments later. They attempted to check the man for weapons. He reportedly took out an unfolded knife. Officers used a taser on the man several times, apparently to no affect. He eventually dropped the knife, but as officers attempted to handcuff him, he picked the knife up, and an officer shot the man once in the leg. Officers began first aid and called the Fire Department ambulance. He was eventually flown out of the County. His condition was listed as critical but stable. Calexico Police, County Sheriff’s and the County District Attorney’s office are all investigating the incident.
