(Setting the record straight)…The Brawley Chamber of Commerce introduced the Cattle Call Queen Contestants earlier this month.
The Chamber says recently a number of articles have stated the 2-15-2016 Cattle Call Queen crown has been given to Chelsey Roper, the sole contestant for the oldest category in the contest. The Chamber says they want to set the record straight. They say even though Roper is the sole contestant, that does not grant her the title. They say the contestant must meet all the criteria outlined in the contest rules and guidelines, including horsemanship, knowledge of equine science and current events, personality, appearance, speech and more. They say Roper will be judged on the criteria during the contest taking place October 2nd and 3rd, along with the Teen Queen contestants. The Jr. Queen and Little Miss contestants will be judged in all categories, except the horsemanship portion of the contest. Over the last 2 years the Chamber and the Cattle Call Queen Committee have stressed that the candidates have to work just as hard for the title of Cattle call Queen as if they were running opposed. They are asking the public to join them at the contest and share in the tradition that has long kicked off the Cattle Call festivities season.
