(Evelio Padilla pleads guilty)….The plea was entered Wednesday in Federal Court in San Diego.
Border Patrol agents arrested Padilla in April. He was found by Border Patrol agents standing on the bank of the All American Canal, dressed in full scuba gear, including a wet suit. Breathing apparatus and 60 pounds of cocaine were found nearby. An investigation resulted in the discovery of a drug tunnel, under the water level of the canal. The tunnel led across the border to a house in Mexicali. The 150-foot tunnel had a trolley system that was used to transport narcotics from the house to the opening in the All American Canal. Padilla, a 28-year-old native of Honduras, will be sentenced in December. He could face 20 years in prison.
