The Calexico Police Department , with an assist from U.S. Border Patrol agents , arrested a robbery suspect.
Tuesday evening the AM/PM convenience store at Kloke and Highway 98 was robbed by a man wielding a knife. Calexico Police requested assistance from the Border Patrol to help search for the suspect. Later Tuesday night Calexico Police were able to identify the suspect from the video footage at the convenience store and requested Border Patrol assistance to secure the perimeter of the suspects residence. Calexico Police determined that the suspect was not home but received consent to search the house and located the clothes and a knife that matched the images from the surveillance cameras. Border Patrol agents in the area were able to detain the suspect and turn him over to Calexico Police. The suspect is said to have an extensive violent criminal record. Calexico Police Chief Gonzalo Gerardo said , " On behalf of the men and women of the Calexico Police Department , I appreciate the members of the United States Border Patrol for all the help that you provide my agency and the citizens of Calexico. "
