Freedom Fest 2008 Committee is pleased to announce Driscoll’s Surf and Skate and Finish Line Bike Shop have committed to sponsor the wildest, most professional skateboard and BMX freestyle show the valley has ever seen during this year’s Freedom Fest, July 4th celebration on the Imperial Valley College campus.
They’ll bring in Xgame style, huge portable ramps and grind rails that will allow the public to see tricks that promise to blow-you-away!
The pros from the Scolls and Struggle teams will be giving out free t-shirts, stickers, merchandise, signing autographs, and talking to the kids about safety and trick tips. “Lost Energy” Drinks, a national sponsor, will offer samples to the public with every donation made to the local teams. Brett Driscoll stated, “We owe a huge amount of thanks to the Boy Scouts of America and the Holtville Athletic Club for believing in us and helping us make this happen. Our show will start around 6:00 p.m. and continue until the fireworks show. We’re bringing kids that are the top skaters and BMX freestyle guys, in the whole valley, who will battle to let you decide who the top dawg is.”
This year’s theme for Freedom Fest 2008 is “This Is Our Country” honoring our 2nd President, John Adams’ remarks, during the signing ceremony of the Declaration of Independence; “We should celebrate our independence from one end of the continent to the other from this time forward and forever more”.
Free 3-D glasses, to watch this year’s fireworks show, will be available at Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurants throughout the Imperial Valley.
“Each year our static displays offer something for kids and adults alike, and this year is no exception,” stated committee member Roland Pritchard. “The American Red Cross will display their chapter Hummer and Trixxie the Emergency Vehicle. The Sun Runners’ Car Club is back with their display of custom cars and trucks. Homeland Security Border Patrol will display their Borstar ATVs, sand rail, K-9 division, and more. Plus, you’ll see the IID’s Hazmat truck and response unit trailer and large tractors from Torrence’s Farm Implements”.
The Sun Runners’ Car Club of Imperial Valley is also returning this year with some good old-fashioned 4th of July games for kids. There will be no charge to enter the contests and the Sun Runners will provide prizes for the winners.
“Each year the Freedom Fest committee receives tremendous support from the Imperial Valley College, cities, county, state, and federal agencies to help put this event on, stated Gene Brister, President and General Manager of KXO AM1230 and FM 107.5. We’re also fortunate to have a major buy-in of sponsorships from Valley Plaza Shopping Center, Imperial Printers, Volunteers of America, McMillin Homes, Hems Brothers Mortuary, Viejas/Manzanita, and Superior Ready Mix/Ryerson”.
Fireworks America of San Diego will once again choreograph and fire the largest fireworks show in the Imperial Valley. Freedom Fest 2008, now in its eighteenth year, will be held on Friday, July 4th, from 6 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., on the campus of Imperial Valley College. Concessions and static displays will open at 6 p.m. and the free fireworks show starts at 9:30 p.m.
Families are urged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, and radios tuned to 107.5 on the FM dial for the fireworks music and prepare themselves for a fun filled evening of entertainment, food, and great static displays. Alcoholic beverages, personal fireworks, and BBQ’s are not allowed on the college campus grounds. The fireworks show and entertainment are free to the public.
