Gloria Brister, entertainment and static display chairperson for Freedom Fest, stated, “the Imperial Valley is proud of Bryan King for his passion and ability to convince the organizers of the contest that he should be the winner of a custom motorcycle in the competition that saw 7000 entries from throughout the United States. His story is truly remarkable and was a featured special on the Discovery Channel in January of 2006.” Mr. King will unveil, for the first time to the public, the first ever non-motorized chopper wheel chair custom-made and painted to match his bike. The first 1000 people to visit his display will take home an autographed color photo of his Orange County Chopper bike courtesy of Staples, in El Centro. This year’s theme for Freedom Fest 2007 is “American Pride”, and is a salute to our military. FM 107 will once again produce and underwrite the fireworks show, synchronized to music, on behalf of the Imperial Valley Joint Chambers of Commerce: Imperial, Brawley, Holtville, El Centro, Calexico, and Westmorland.
The Freedom Fest committee, American Red Cross, and FM 107 will honor men and women firefighters, police officers, city, county, state, and federal public safety personnel for their dedication and courageous service during a special program on the Freedom Fest stage on the night of the event. Free 3-D glasses to watch this years’ fireworks show will be available at Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurants throughout the valley and Pulte Homes’ housing developments, Savanna Ranch in Imperial and Legacy Ranch in El Centro. This year’s entertainment lineup will feature the valley’s very own “Nine Lives” four piece classic rock band appearing on the concert size stage starting at 7:00 p.m. “This year’s static displays will offer something for kids and adults alike, stated committee member and Director of the Imperial Valley American Red Cross Sylvia Preciado. We will be displaying our chapter hummer, Trixxie the Emergency Vehicle, Scott the Family Services Disaster Van, and our hi profile Aquatics Van.” Last year’s favorites Walter Britschgi’s 5000 horsepower, 3-engine tractor puller and the Sun Runner’s Car Club’s display of custom cars and trucks will be returning. Plus, the I.V. Living History group has a new display of Civil War and WWII items and Coyne Motorsports’ trophy truck will be on display, plus K-9 units, ATV’s, large Ag. Tractors, and more. The Sun Runners Car Club of Imperial Valley is returning this year with some good old-fashioned 4th of July games for kids. There will be no charge to enter the contests and the Sun Runners will provide prizes for the winners. Gene Brister, President and General Manager of KXO AM1230 and FM 107, stated; “each year the Freedom Fest committee receives tremendous support from the Imperial Valley College, cities, county, state, and federal agencies to help put this event on. We’re also fortunate to have a major buy-in of sponsorships from Imperial Printers, Stewart Title Company, Golden Capital Mortgage, McMillin Homes, Granitewurkz, Manzanita/Viejas, Superior Ready Mix/Ryerson, Sun Community Federal Credit Union, Torrence’s Farm Implements, Liberty Motorsports of Yuma, Imperial Irrigation District, Volunteers of America and FM 107. Plus, this year Desert Commercial Bank and Paradise Casino are once again exclusive sponsors of our concert size stage which features state of the art technology and a 40,000 watt sound system.” Fireworks America of San Diego will once again choreograph and fire the largest fireworks show in the history of Imperial Valley. Freedom Fest 2007, now in its seventeenth year, will be held on Wednesday, July 4th, from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., on the campus of Imperial Valley College. Concession and static displays will open at 6 p.m.; entertainment on the concert size stage beginning at 7 p.m., and the free fireworks show starts at 9:30 p.m. Families are urged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, and radios that can be tuned to 107.5 on the FM dial for the fireworks music and prepare themselves for a fun filled evening of live entertainment, food booths, and great static displays. Alcoholic beverages, personal fireworks, and BBQ’s are not allowed on the college campus grounds. The fireworks show and entertainment are free to the public.
