(Morning smuggling attempt)...It happened recently at the Highway 86 Immigration Checkpoint.

A Kia Optima drove up to the checkpoint at 7:30 in the morning. The vehicle, with a woman and two men inside, were sent to the segundary inspection area. During the inspection a Border Patrol Canine Detection Team alerted to the vehicle. Agents discovered three packages in a backpack found in the trunk of the vehicle. The contents of the packages tested positive for methamphetamine. The three occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest. The meth weighed a total of 2.69 pounds, with an estimated street value of $6,572. All 3 of the vehicle occupants were determined to be US Citizens. They, along with the vehicle and the meth were turned over to the Imperial County Border Crimes Suppression Team.
