The Imperial Irrigation District is warning there may be more rolling blackouts Labor Day.

Because of the continuing heatwave across the Southwest increasing energy demands the IID is asking customers to continue to conserve electricity. The District also warned of the possibility of rotating power outages between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. today. Rolling blackouts occurred Saturday afternoon and evening as electricity demand soared as temperatures reached 121 degrees. Compounding the problem , according to the IID , was the unexpected termination of contracts to import additional energy to the IID's service area. No planned outages occurred Sunday.

The forecast for Labor Day is for temperatures to reach between 115 and 120 degrees. According to the National Weather Service , a pattern shift starting Tuesday includes a strong storm system dropping down from Canada and that will see temperatures drop to double digits by Wednesday. The weather system will carry strong winds with gusts up to 30 mies per hour.
