U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 10 individuals for fraudulently using social security numbers.

The 10 , all illegal aliens , were in a group of vehicles caravanning together last week  when they approached the Highway 86 Checkpoint near Salton City. During an immigration interview it was determined that one of the drivers and several occupants in the vehicles were illegally present in the United States. During processing agents determined that 9 of the 10 individuals were fraudulently using legitimate Social Security numbers belonging to U. S. citizens or of deceased U. S. citizens. Three fraudulent lawful permanent resident cards were also discovered. The group was part of a privately contracted fire crew from Oregon travelling north from Calexico after briefly working in the area. All were presented for prosecution under identity theft charges. The case is still under investigation.
