(Abandoned woman rescued)…She had been left in the Jacumba Wilderness region.

Earlier this week the California Highway Patrol notified the El Centro Sector Border Patrol of a distress call from a woman who had been left behind by smugglers. She had told the CHP she had been traveling with a group of 4. She said she had been left behind, and the rest of the group had been arrested. Border Patrol agents working the area went to the site of the arrests, and traced the footprints back to where they had traveled. A Border Patrol agent flying with a National Guard air asset, joined the search. In less than an hour, the agent in the aircraft spotted the woman near an abandoned mine. They were able to make contact with the woman and determine she was the one who made the distress call. It was also determined she did not need medical attention. ,It was also determined she was from Mexico and had entered the US illegally. The woman was taken to a process area, where agents did a criminal check and then deported the woman back to Mexico.
