Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered all California counties on the state Monitoring List to return to school in a Distance Learning only model with no in-person instruction.

In a Joint Statement released by Imperial County Public Health Officer Dr. Stephen Munday and Imperial County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Todd Finnell , Imperial County is on that list and subject to the order. All schools will remain in the Distance Learning mode until Imperial County has been removed from the Monitoring List for a period of 14 consecutive days. 

According to the statement , in the coming weeks , all schools in the County will be developing comprehensive plans to address the following critical areas in school programs: Mental Health and  Social and Emotional Well-Being , Pupil Engagement and Outreach , School Nutrition  , Pupil Learning Loss , Distance Learning Program , and In-Person Instructional Offerings. According to Dr. Finnell , some parents may wish to continue distance learning for the entire school year and Imperial County schools will offer a Distance Learning option for the entire school year.
