A voluntary " Shelter-in-Place " program ended this weekend , but will continue with a second group.

Thirty-two Imperial Irrigation District employees volunteered for the first phase of the program and sheltered-in-place at designated critical facilities. The program is designed to keep employees safe and to ensure that the IID's water and energy systems remain operational during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 32 employees headed home for the first time in three weeks when their shifts ended this weekend. A second wave of district employees took their place on Saturday. The second wave will consist of 28 employees. After the second groups third week the district will reevaluate the program. The employees in the program are required to work 12-hour shifts , seven days a week , while remaining at their designated worksites 24 hours a day for the duration of the program.
