Autopsy determines unidentified person died from gunshot wound

(Officials confirm cause of death)…An autopsy on the body found Sunday evening was performed Tuesday.

The results indicate the young male died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head. The weapon was a .22 caliber. Officials say they are checking dental records in an attempt to identify the victim. Evidence points to the fact the victim may be a 14-year-old Imperial teen, missing since August 23rd. Officials, however, say the body was severely decomposed, and a positive identification has not been possible. The day the teen was discovered missing, it was also reported a .22 Caliber rifle was missing from the home. A similar weapon was found near the body discovered at around 5:00 pm Sunday on private property near Ralph Road, close to Clarke Road, north of Imperial. The dental comparisons and other test results are expected to take about a week to be returned. Investigators say they do not want to speculate on anything until the evidence is confirmed.
