(Mexico is celebrating the beginning of the fight for independence)…It is a holiday throughout Mexico.
That has resulted in very long lines crossing the border into the US. It was on September 16, 1810 that the Cry for independence was delivered in Dolores, Guanajuato. The Grito de Dolores was delivered by Catholic Priest Miguel Hidalgo y Castilla. He also read the revolutionary tract, outlining the call to end 300 years of Spanish rule in Mexico. The call resulted in an immediate march on Mexico City, but it was a long march. The revolution took over ten years before it was finally successful. It cost Miguel Hidalgo his life, but it also created new leaders such as Vicente Guerrero, Jose Maria Morelos and Mariano Matamoros, among others.
