(Almost $2 million in narcotics seized)….The seizures were over the weekend.
They were the result of inspections at the Imperial Valley Ports of Entry. In the first incident, a Customs and Border Protection K-9 team was screening vehicles in line at the East Port. The detector dog alerted to a 2004 Ford Expedition. The vehicle and the 37-year-old female driver were taken to the secondary inspection area. During an extensive examination, officers discovered 31 wrapped packages of methamphetamine in the transmission area of the vehicle. The narcotics weighed 12 pounds, with a street value of around $231,000. The second seizure came at the Andrade Port. CBP officers targeted a vehicle driven by a 56 year old man. An inspection of that vehicle resulted in the discovery of several bundles of US currency. A total of $296, 010. The largest seizure occurred at the East Port, after officer found 98 pounds of cocaine concealed in the auxiliary gas tank of a 190 GMC pickup. The street value of the cocaine was $1,172,000. The final seizure came at the Downtown Calexico Port. CBP officers found 49 pounds of cocaine and four pounds methamphetamine. The street value of the cocaine was set at $590,400. The value of the meth was set at $85,000. All the vehicle drivers and their passengers were arrested and turned over to Homeland Security investigations agents for further processing and then booked into County Jail.
