(Supervisors adopt resolution to carry-over grant funds)….The Assistant District Attorney says the funds could not be spent last fiscal year.
The funds had been sent to the District Attorneys office under the California Department of Insurance-Automobile Insurance Grant Program. Assistant District Attorney Debra Owen told the Supervisors her department could not free up an attorney to over-see the program last year. She said there were priority cases that needed to be prosecuted. She admitted the D.A.’s office was denied a grant under the program this year because all the funds were not used last year. Owen said every effort would be to complete the program this year, using the $32,500 carried over from last year’s grant. The Board approved the resolution unanimously, even though some questioned the Department’s ability to free up an attorney this year, when they could not last year. Owen said the D.A.’s office was requesting a staffing increasing in the new budget. County Executive Officer Ralph Cordova, however, said his office would not be recommending a staff increase when the budget is presented to the Board.
