U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico cargo port intercepted narcotics valued at $3.2 million.
The incident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. Thursday when a tractor trailer rig with an empty trailer entered the cargo facility at the Calexico East port of entry. The truck was referred to secondary inspection where an intensive search led to the discovery of 77 packages of cocaine and 34 packages of methamphetamine hidden inside a specially built compartment under the floor of the supposedly empty trailer. The cocaine totaled 198 pounds and the methamphetamine another 67 pounds. The driver , a Mexicali resident , was arrested and taken to Imperial County Jail.
