U.S. Border Patrol agents seized $1.26 million worth of methamphetamine early this morning.
The seizure occurred at about 5:00 a.m. at the Border Patrol Checkpoint on Highway 86 between Westmorland and Salton City. A pick up truck approached the checkpoint and was referrred to secondary inspection after a Border Patrol canine team alerted to the vehicle. During a search of the truck , packages of methamphetamine were found hidden inside two compartments that had been built into the bed of the pick up. The methamphetamine weighed nearly 40 pounds and has a street value of $1,260,860. The 41-year old man driving the truck , a U.S. citizen , was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
