El Centro fire fighters responded to a commercial building on fire Wednesday morning.

El Centro Police officers were dispatched to a burglar alarm in the 300 block of east Commercial Avenue at 6:18 a.m. On arrival officers reported the building was burning and El Centro Fire Department was dispatched. The first engine company on the scene requested a second alarm as heavy smoke and flames were shooting from the 1,400 square foot building with an attached auto shop. Two engine companies , two quick response vehicles and two chief officers from El Centro responded with 12 firefighters. Mutual aid from the City of Holtville . City of Imperial , and Imperial County Fire Department added 6 additional firefighters. Fire attack crews , facing heavy smoke and flames were able to search the structure for possible victims and extinguish the fire. Adjacent vehicles and buildings were protected from the spread of the fire. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. Fire personnel were able to clear from the scene by 9:15 a.m.
