(Sheriff to seek a third term)….Sheriff Ray Loera made the announcement Wednesday morning.
Loera says since 2007, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office has continued to be a leader in law enforcement providing residents and visitors of Imperial County the highest quality services. In making the announcement, the Sheriff said although there have been a number of significant issues to contend with, such as state budget problems, court closures and corrections re-alignment, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office continues to move forward. Before swerving as Sheriff, Loera was the Police Chief for the City of El Centro. The next election for County offices is June 3rd of next year. Registrar of Voters Debby Porter says Filing begins December 27th for signatures in lieu of payments. Loera may have some competition. Porter says former Sheriff’s Department employee Rick Mackan has opened a campaign to run for Sheriff, but he has not officially announced his candidacy. At least one County Supervisor is expected to announce his campaign for re-election next week.
