Border Patrol agents arrested a 29-year old man who fled from authorities attempting to stop him.

The incident began mid-morning Thursday when Border Patrol agents from the El Centro Sector attempted to stop a car on Interstate 8 near the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation area. The driver refused to stop and led agents on a chase into the Yuma area. During the pursuit , the driver stopped at a gas station at 16th Street and Redondo Drive in Yuma where 4 men got out of the car. The four were taken into custody. The driver then attempted to evade Border Patrol agents by driving through Yuma. The pursuit finally ended in the Foothills area when the car collided with a civilian vehicle. The suspect then ran from the accident and barricaded himself in a nearby house. Border Patrol agents were able to locate the man hiding in a closet. The residents of the house were unharmed. The driver of the civilian vehicle was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested and charged. He is currently on probation from a previous smuggling attempt in June of this year.
