(It is Public Power Week)…It began Sunday and will run through Saturday.

The Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors will officially recognize the special week at their meeting Tuesday. The Board goes into public session at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon. The Board will be asked to adopt a resolution that recognizes the high value public power on local control, low cost, not for profit rates and how customers, as owners of the utility, have a direct say in operations and policies. The IID has served the Imperial Valley and eastern Coachella Valley for more than 75 years. The district is one of more than 2,000 community owned, not for profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans. The IID serves 156,000 residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural electric meters, representing about 450,000 residents across the district’s service area.
