A 44-year old man riding with a group if bicyclists was killed in a Sunday morning hit & run accident.

The California Highway Patrol says the man was with a group of four cyclists riding northbound on the shoulder of State Route 111 just south of Interstate 8 at about 7:30 a.m.  A vehicle , also northbound on Highway 111 , veered off the roadway and struck the group. The fatally injured man took the brunt of the collision , a 43-year old woman was said to be severely injured. Two other riders sustained minor injuries. The car's driver , a 31-year old unlicensed woman from El Centro , fled the scene of the accident but was apprehended a short time later by Highway Patrol officers. The CHP said that the woman had been drinking but was not under the influence at the time of the accident. She was booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of Felony Hit and Run. The accident remains under investigation. All of the bicyclists were reported to be Mexican nationals.
