A husband and wife with two minor children in their truck were found with nearly three-quarters of a million dollars worth of drugs.

The incident occurred Monday at about 4:00 p.m. at the Andrade port of entry. The pick up truck occupied by the family was referred to secondary inspection where U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers , using the port's imaging system , found anomalies in a spare tire. Officers removed 83 packages of methamphetamine from the tire. The drugs weighed 215 pounds and have a street value of nearly $710,000. The 43-year old driver and his 41-year old wife , both U.S. citizens , were arrested for the smuggling attempt. They were booked into Imperial County Jail to await arraignment. The two minor children were turned over to Child Protective Services.
