(The Valley was very patriotic Thursday)….4th of July celebrations were held from Calexico to Calipatria.
Organizers say they were all well attended. The major events were held on the campus of Imperial Valley College, Crummett Park in Calexico and Calipatria. Organizers for the 23rd annual Freedom Fest say solid numbers are not available, yet. They say, however, the crowd on campus and around the campus, on canal banks and along nearby roads, the numbers appeared close to what was anticipated. That was 50,000 spectators. The free event featured static displays, concessions, entertainment by Latin Fuse and a free fireworks show synchronized to music on FM 107.5. The radio station presented the event on behalf of the Imperial Chamber of Commerce. The Calexico Chamber presented the Rockin 4th of July celebration at Crummett park. Comments were that organizers were very pleased with their turnout. The Chamber in Calipatria says their event was also well attended. The north county celebration included the coronation of royalty, young and even younger, a color guard, water sprinkles provided by the fire department and many other events. It ended with a fireworks display.
