(Long weekend in Mexico)…It will be Mexican Independence Day weekend.

Mexico celebrates their Independence on two days, September 15th and September 16th. The Grito de Independencia is at mid-night on the 15th, leading into the actual Independence Day on the 16th. The first Grito was delivered by Father Miguel Hidalgo on September 16th 1810, in Dolores, Guanajuato. The fight for Independence from Spain ended on September 28th, 1821. The City of El Centro and the Mexican Consulate in Calexico will be sponsoring a Grito celebration on this Saturday, September 14th at Bucklin Park. The family oriented event starts at 6:00 pm and will feature folkloric dancing, live Mariachi music, food vendors, live entertainment and more. The event is free and everyone is invited.
