(Union officials getting frustrated)…Officials with the United Food and Commercial Workers union say talks are going nowhere.

They have called for a vote on the latest contract offer. Officials say they are not happy with the offer, but it is the latest one offered by the Supermarkets they are negotiating with. Union members are currently working under a contract that expired in March. The details of the latest offer have not been made public. The union has announced a vote on the offer for September 9th. This despite the fact new talks are scheduled for September 4th through September 8th. In June grocery workers across Southern California voted overwhelmingly in favor of authorizing the union leadership to call a strike. The union, however, has said they do not want to call a strike; they want a new contract offer that is fair for its members. In Imperial County, the action would affect the Von’s Supermarkets and its employees.
