U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint intercepted two shipments of methamphetamine this week.

On Tuesday morning at about 9:30 a.m. , a 29-year old woman was sent to secondary inspection when a canine team alerted to her car. Border Patrol agents discovered several packages hidden inside the rear passenger seat of the car. The packages contained nearly 29 pounds of meth with a street value of over $66,000. The woman , a lawful permanent resident , was arrested.

On Wednesday afternoon at about 12:24 p.m. a Border Patrol canine team alerted to a small SUV. The SUV was sent to secondary inspection where several packages were found hidden in the vehicles spare tire compartment as well as the gas tank. The packages contained almost 50 pounds of meth with a value of nearly $115,000. The driver , a U.S. citizen , was turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff's Office Border Crime Suppression Team.
