(Armando Real enters a not guilty plea)…The arraignment was held Thursday.

The former Calexico City Council member is being charged with misdemeanor shoplifting. Real was not present at the arraignment. The plea was entered by his attorney on his behalf. The incident occurred at Wal Mart in Calexico late last year. The charge indicates Real attempted to pay less than what he owed in purchases at the store. Real contends he had made a mistake scanning his items in the self check-out area. The attendant noticed the discrepancy, and he paid the difference before leaving the store. The Calexico Police were notified of the incident and they investigated. A report was filed with the District Attorney’s Office, and the D.A. decided to prosecute. A second charge was filed against Real Thursday. A misdemeanor charge of intent to commit larceny. Real apparently returned to Wal Mart. A store employee reportedly told him he was not permitted to be at the store and he was trespassing.
