(Southern California shakes)…Several earthquakes have been reported.
All in the Mojave Desert, north of Los Angeles. The US Geological Survey says the first, a magnitude 4.0, hit 7 miles from the Searles Valley. It was followed by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake in the same basic area. It has been followed by several other quakes, measuring between 3.8 and 4.7. All are reported in the same area, but they have been felt throughout Southern California. Several reports have been received in the Los Angeles area. It was felt in the Coachella Valley, with some reports as far south as El Centro.
