A 72-year old bicyclist died from injuries suffered when struck by a hit & run driver.
According to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office , the accident occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Highway 95 and West County 15th Street. A car southbound on Highway 95 swerved off the roadway and struck the cyclist who was also southbound. The driver of the car then fled the scene of the accident without stopping. A short time later the car and driver were located on Highway 95 near Gadsden. Deputies arrested the driver , 22-year old Rafeal Nunez of Yuma , and charged him with Second Degree Murder and Manslaughter. The bicyclist , Jose Vasquez-Rodriguez of Somerton was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
