(It hasn’t officially been declared)…But, Saturday will be Andy Ruiz Jr. Day.
The Imperial Chamber of Commerce, The City of Imperial and the County have joined together to put on a celebration and recognition of the Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World. Ruiz, a native of the City of Imperial, won his title June 1st in New York, becoming the first ever Heavyweight Boxing Champion of Mexican Descent. The parade Saturday will begin at 8:00 Saturday morning. It will start at 4th Street and Imperial Avenue in Imperial, travel north towards Barioni Boulevard, then west towards D Street, ending at Imperial High School. At the school a rally will be held at the Football Field. It is all to honor and recognize the native son on his outstanding accomplishment. It is all being held in Imperial, but everyone in the Valley is encouraged to attend.
