(Census 2020 Campaign Kick-off)…It is a national effort.
Local efforts are working are working towards an accurate count. The effort is to educate the community about the importance of the Census 2020 that is scheduled to be released on April 1, 2020. Census data is crucial for our representative democracy. The numbers determine apportionment of seats in the US House of Representatives and how district lines are drawn at all levels of government. Also, data guides the allocation of more than $800 billion in federal funding programs that are crucial to the well being of families, including those affecting health, transportation, education and housing. Members of the local committee said accurate data collection is extremely important as the data allows the local representatives to advocate on behalf of the public for services that are not offered in Imperial County. Census packages will be mailed out in March 2020.
