Emergency personnel evacuated a one-mile area around a three alarm industrial fire shortly after noon Wednesday.

According to the Imperial County Fire Department , the fire began when an LNG tanker was offloading product into a separate container at a cattle feedlot in the 900 block of Nichols Road west of Heber. For an unknown reason fumes were ignited. Initially arriving crews attempted an offensive attack but , due to the lack of available water , switched to a defensive attack on the blaze. Authorities called for an evacuation radius of one mile around the fire and cautioned the public to avoid the area.
