A Holtville man was seriously injured in a traffic accident early Monday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol , at about 3:57 a.m. Monday , a John Deere tractor was eastbound on Even Hewes Highway near James Road at about 20 mph. A Toyota 4Runner was also eastbound on Evan Hewes right behind the tractor. For an unknown reason , the front of the Toyota struck the rear of the John Deere. The tractor driver , 21-year old Ruben Espinoza of Calexico was not injured. The 4Runner driver , 34-year old Mickey Terribilini of Holtville received a broken leg and complained of pain to the left side of his chest. Terribilini was airlifted to Desert Community Hospital in Palm Springs. Evan Hewes Highway was closed off for about 30 minutes to allow REACH Air Ambulance to land for the evacuation of Terribilini. The accident remains under investigation.
