(Is the IID getting out of the energy delivery business in the Coachella Valley?)….They are thinking about it.

This week Imperial Irrigation District Board President Erik Ortega directed IID General Manager Enrique Martinez to bring the Board a plan for the divestment of IID’s energy assets in the Coachella Valley. The action is a reaction to Assembly Bill 854. The Bill was authored by Riverside County Assemblyman Chad Mayes. It would give Riverside Residents six seats on the Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors. That would give Riverside a controlling vote on everything the IID did, including water issues, threatening the District’s water rights. Members of the American Citizens Club in Brawley were at this week’s IID Board meeting and said they backed the District in its fight against the bill. They also demanded Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia to take a stand on the proposed bill.
