(IID Board agrees to hire two communications and public outreach firms)…The Imperial Irrigation District Board made the decision Tuesday afternoon.
The vote did not come until General Manager Kevin Kelley responded to complaints the IID should have went out to bid and then should have made every effort to hire locally. Kelley said hiring the firms was part of the Board’s program of work to help develop a strategic plan on the Salton Sea, and then educate the media, affected communities both within and outside of the Imperial Valley. Kelley picked APCO Worldwide, Incorporated and Diversity Consulting Group as the best available. The contracts are for six months. APCO will be paid $250,000 and Diversity will receive $60,000. The contracts would only be extended through Board action.
