U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico ports of entry had a big day on Saturday.

At about 1:00 p.m. at the Calexico commercial inspection facility , officers encountered a shipment manifested as steel cable. The driver and truck were referred to secondary inspection where the port's e-ray imaging system identified an anomaly in the load. further inspection led to the discovery of 122 wrapped packages of cocaine inside one of the spools of cable. The driver , a resident of Mexicali was arrested.

The second incident was reported later that same day at the Calexico downtown port of entry where an SUV was referred to secondary inspection. The ports imaging system detected anomalies in the SUV's firewall. Further inspection led to the discovery of 50 pounds of methamphetamine. The driver , a 28-year old Brawley man who is a Mexican citizen and lawful permanent resident of the U.S. was arrested.
