(26 year old woman in custody)….She was arrested Saturday evening.
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents made the arrest at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint. The woman was driving a black Nissan Altima as she approached the checkpoint. A Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle and it was sent to the secondary inspection area. During the inspection, agents discovered several packages hidden inside the gas tank of the vehicle. It was determined the packages contained methamphetamine. The packages weighed close to 44 pounds, with an estimated street value of over $145,000. The woman, a Mexican citizen, the meth and the vehicle were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Border Crime Suppression Team.
