A U.S. Border Patrol agent was assaulted in Calexico Monday morning.

The agent was patrolling near the intersection of First and Heffernan in downtown Calexico when a man approached the agent who was in a marked Border Patrol vehicle. the man threw an object , a partial lawnmower blade , at the driver's side window. The broken blade shattered the window and struck the agent causing injuries to her arm and face. The agent chased the suspect who ran northwest from the scene. Other agents responded to the scene and arrested the attacker , identified as 33-year old Josue Gomez-Reyes , a Mexican national illegally in the U.S. According to the Border Patrol , Gomez has an extensive immigration and criminal record in the united States. Gomez was arrested and turned over to the federal Bureau of Investigation for further investigation.
