The California Highway Patrol is investigating separate accidents that each claimed a life. Contributing to both accidents was icy conditions along Interstate 8 in the San Diego County mountains.

At about 10:55 p.m. Tuesday a 31-year old woman died when she apparently lost control of her car on Interstate 8 near Live Oak Springs. The woman was partially ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Early Wednesday morning a multi-car pileup on Interstate 8 at the Pine Valley Bridge resulted in the death of a 32-year old man. The man had stopped to help the driver of a vehicle that had crashed on the bridge. He apparently jumped over the railing of the bridge while trying to avoid being struck by another vehicle that couldn't stop in time. The victim fell to his death.

The San Diego Coroner's Office has not released the names of the victims yet.
