The Imperial County Board of Supervisors approved a loan for One World Beef , LLC ( OWB ) from the Agricultural Benefit Program.
The $2 million will finance acquisition and improvements to a 132-acre parcel of land adjacent to the existing plant. According to One World Beef , this will allow for the discharge of treated wastewater onto neighboring farmland , thereby reducing the amount of water discharged in to the City of Brawley sewer system. One World Beef received a $2.5 million loan from the Agricultural Benefit Program in 2016 with the proceeds of that loan being used to reopen the Brawley beef processing plant and hire approximately 350 employees. So far One World Beef has successfully met its obligations associated with the first loan.
