(Large Shipment of Methamphetamine)…The shipment was seized.
There was one arrest. El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Highway 86 checkpoint made the arrest. Officials say it occurred at 3:00 pm Wednesday when a 45 year old female Mexican National approached the checkpoint in a SUV. As the vehicle approached the inspection area, a Border Patrol K-9 team alerted to the vehicle. The vehicle and driver were referred to the secondary inspection area. During the inspection agents found 37 wrapped packages hidden in the quarter panels and spare tire. The packages tested positive for methamphetamine. The packages had a combined weight of 41 pounds with an estimated street value of over $1.3 million. The driver, vehicle and the narcotics were all turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
