An incident in Holtville Wednesday night resulted in gunfire and injuries to a sheriff's deputy.
According to a news release from the City of Holtville , an Imperial County Sheriff's deputy assigned to Holtville contacted an individual suspected of criminal activity. Gunshots were fired but neither the deputy or the suspect were hit. The deputy did sustain injuries during a scuffle when the suspect struck him in the head with an unknown object. The suspect fled the scene of the incident , but was captured a short time later and taken into custody. The deputy was transported by air ambulance for treatment of his injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
