(Suspect arrested in Sunday’s fiery collision)… Brawley Police have identified the suspect as 27-year-old Scotty De La Torre.
The Calipatria resident has been charged with driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. According to the preliminary investigation, De La Torre was driving North of Highway 86 Sunday afternoon. Police say he failed to stop at the stoplight on Panno Road. He reportedly rear-ended an SUV that was stopped at the light. The impact pushed the SUV into the intersection, where it collided with a small compact vehicle making a left turn. The SUV burst into flames. Attempts by bystanders to rescue the driver were futile because of the intensity of the fire. The driver of the SUV died at the scene. De La Torre and the other driver were taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for injuries and released. Police say De La Torre was arrested at the Hospital. He was booked into County Jail, with bail set at $100,000.
