(United Desert Gateway asks for funding assistance)….The funds will help pay for an historical project.

Gateway was asked by the Bureau of Land Management to assist with the education, interpretation and preservation of the Juan Bautista de Anza Historical Trail as it passes through Imperial County. In 1775-76 Juan Bautista De Anza traveled 1200 miles to settle the San Francisco Bay area. The Spaniard traveled through the local desert as part of his travels. The Counbty Board of Supervisors agreed to allot Gateway $90,000 from the Off Highway Vehicle funds received from the state. The funds will help pay for several projects, including the creation of interpretive plan, develop a mobile tour application so visitors may listen to an audio tour from their mobile devices, educational/informational brochures a museum exhibit for the Imperial Valley Desert Museum and more. United Desert Gateway has already spent $90,000 on some projects. They need $140,000 to complete their project. The OHV funds will be part of that total. They will seek corporate grants and other donations to complete the total.
