A Marine fighter jet crashed in the city of Imperial Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred shortly after 4:00 P.M. in the 600 block of Fonzie Avenue in Imperial. The pilot ejected from the aircraft and was treated for minor injuries. The fighter hit the street in front of several houses with debris striking two of the homes. a man in one of the homes told KXO News that he never heard anything until the front window of the house blew out and he
saw flames. He managed to escape without injury as did a woman in the house next door. The aircraft , said to be assigned to the U.S. Marines Black Sheep Squadron was not carrying any ordnance. Among the first emergency crews to respond was the crash truck from Imperial County Airport. Crews from Imperial , El Centro and numerous other agencies responded as did law enforcement from Imperial Police, El Centro Police, Imperial County Sheriffs Office , California Highway Patrol U.S. Border Patrol and ICE. Navy security teams secured the crash scene. The investigation into the cause of the crash is already underway.
