(A decision in the Ioan Laurint case expected this month)…Laurint is accused in the murder of El Centro Attorney Ann Marie Zimmerman.
The decision will by on the defendant’s mental competency. The Defense said their client was not mental fit to stand trial in the murder. The court allowed a mental evaluation in December. Recently the prosecution requested an independent mental evaluation. That request was granted, after the judge in the case determined the defenses evaluation did not cover the defendants current mental state. The court will hear the results of the independent evaluation June 20th. That will determine how the case proceeds.
