(WDB to seek more money)….The County Board of Supervisors gave the go ahead Tuesday.
The Workforce Development Board will be applying for WIA Dislocated Worker Additional Assistance Project funds. The new funds will be in addition to the Dislocated Worker funds already allotted to the local WDB. Imperial County Workforce Development Office Director, Francisco Marquez, says the additional funds will be used to help train employees losing their jobs with the closing of the Brawley Beef facility. Over 1,300 employees at the facility and several more peripheral jobs will be lost when National Beef close the Brawley facility. Marquez says he foresees a few hundred of those seeking to learn a new trade and needing assistance. An orientation program starts next week at the Brawley Facility. Marquez says if the additional funds are approved, they will probably not receive them until June. He there would be up to a million dollars available.
