(Both lanes of Highway 111 closed over night)….Both the Northbound and Southbound lanes were closed North of the Border Patrol Checkpoint.
There was a semi fully engulfed in flames, forcing the closure at around 8:00 pm Wednesday night. Imperial County Fire responded to the fire, but the rig and its trailer were fully engulfed in flames by the time they arrived. The California Highway Patrol and Cal Trans controlled traffic as the rig burned. The CHP says it was completely destroyed. There were no reports of injury. The Northbound Highway 111 was finally opened to traffic at just after 10:00 pm. The debris was pushed off to the side of the Highway. The tires were burned off the tractor and the trailer. Officials said the tractor was hauled away overnight, but the trailer had to be cut in half, and crews were removing it from the area Thursday morning. The CHP is investigating the incident.
